Biographical Text
Umberto I ruled Italy from 1878 until his assassination in Naples in 1900. He is remembered for entering into the Triple Alliance with Austria-Hungary and Germany in 1882, an alliance that was re-instigated in WWI. Umberto expanded Italian colonialism on the African continent, establishing Italian presence in Somalia and Eritrea.
